Prayers and Good Thoughts as we move into the middle of summer of this memorable, troubled and uncertain year. One of the books I am currently reading is The Universal Christ: How a Forgotten Reality Can Change Everything We See, Hope For and Believe by Richard Rohr. In reference to I Corinthians 13, which ends “And now faith, hope and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love,” he writes –
Faith, hope and love are the very nature of God, and thus the nature of all Being.
Such goodness cannot die. Which is what we mean when we say “heaven.“)
No one religion will ever encompass the depth of such faith.
No ethnicity has a monopoly on such hope.
No nationality can control or limit this Flow of such universal love.
I invite you to join us in one of our Bible Studies. On Tuesday evening at 6:00 and Wednesday morning at 10:30 we will be considering the 9th chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians.
On Thursday evening at 6:00 the scriptures are four parables that speak to the consequences of being an unfaithful servant:
Matthew 5:13-16 Salt and Light
Luke 12:42-46 Faithful and Unfaithful Servant
Matthew 25:14-30 Parable of the Talents
The World Mission Conference, usually held at Green Lake, will be online for all from 3:00-3:30PM Pacific Time on July 14, 16, 21, 23, and 28. Presentations will address our international efforts in health assessments, issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in starvation and maternal and child mortality; programs of Thailand’s New Life Center; and support endeavors with the Baptists of India. Representatives of these programs will tell of their work. Visit their website for information.
There is still time to sign the children in your life up for Vacation Bible Camp! I always look forward to leading the Bible story time.
The Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America shares this prayer from Sofia Wolman of Jamaica Plain Baptist Church (Massachusets)
I pray that we:
Maintain faith, hope, and connection;
Respond to these challenges and fear with integrity and creativity;
Resist the temptations of stigma, isolation, or hopelessness;
Promote, protect, and preserve the health, safety, well-being, and highest good of all involved; and
Build and practice our community and collective capacities to care for all life in this moment and into the future.
Know that you are loved. Peace.
