A look forward to Sunday, March 23, 2014

Sermon Title:  “A New Day, and Not Just In Our Hearts”

Scripture: Luke 5:1-11

Focus Verse:  “When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.” (Luke 5:15)

Main Idea:  Jesus proclaimed that the Reign of God had broken into human history and that whole world was being changed. His disciples did not fully understand this but they knew enough that they could not go back to business as usual. Throughout history, visionary leaders have perceived this reality and called on their societies to accept it and adopt the needed changes. Among those leaders is the great Baptist pastor, Walter Rauschenbusch, who worked among the poor of New York City a century ago.

Music to Look Forward To:  Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben, (from St. Matthew’s Passion) J.S. Bach (Out of Love, My Savior is Willing to Die) Hallie Randel-Schreiber, soprano, Phil Meads, flute, Stan Fong, organ

“Let Me Hide Myself in Thee ” arr Craig Courtney, the Voices of Lakeshore

Looking back to this past Sunday – Thanks to Sydney for her sermon on Compassion, to Stan for the prelude and postlude, to the Voices of Lakeshore for the anthem,”Kyrie Eleison,” to Carolyn and Ruth Ann for the Offertory and to our children and their leaders for both the “Fruits of the Spirit” music and the table laden with fruit at the Coffee Hour!
