Today I share some prayers for the times we live in. Stand Strong. Hold On. Jim H.
From Walter Rauschenbusch (1861-1918)The Baptist pastor and theologian who was central to the Social Gospel movement of his day and who, through his writings, teaches us that our work is not only to change individuals but to change structures.
We feel our utter need of thee, thou great companion of our souls.
Be thou the strength of our weakness,
the wisdom of our foolishness,
the triumph of our failures,
the changeless unity in our changing days.
From Dennis L. Johnson’s recent collection of Rauschenbusch’s spiritual reflections, To Live in God, 2020 Judson Press. (Thanks to Dale E. for forwarding)
From Your Pastor
Creator of Belonging,
Root us deeply in way of Jesus that we may grow toward you, toward each other and toward your beloved, easily broken, community.
Source of Hope,
Give us wings that we may soar on the wind of your Spirit, open to the great surprises you have in store for us, aware and appreciative of the magnificent differences present in your beloved, easily broken body.
Guide of Our Way,
We need roots if we are to grow beyond the limits of our selfishness, we need wings if we are to soar toward the dreams you have for us. We understand full well that roots and wings are your lasting gift, your living grace, to your beloved, easily broken, children.
