Does the birth of Jesus inspire us to be zealots or simply “zealous for good deeds?”
Prayer continues to be much discussed in that “thoughts and prayers” are often heard as nothing more than a symbol of inaction in the face of great pain. In this scripture, prayer is not escape from the world but a symbol of willingness to be involved in the world.
When we entrust our well-being, both now and in the life to come, to God’s tender mercy, we can stop pretending that we are something we are not.
Our faith matters, but it is God’s faithfulness that matters most.
