Sharing Our Spirituality
At Sunday Worship, Lakeshore’s doors are opened wide to welcome everyone. Our diverse community embraces all who enter, and the Passing of the Peace is a standing-in-the-aisles celebration and welcome. Additional celebrations are scheduled for certain holidays, including Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas. Keep watch on the Calendar Page for the latest information. Sunday school and Nursery care are available for our children during the Sunday worship service.
Lakeshore comes alive with music to celebrate spirituality. Our Choir, the Voices of Lakeshore, sing hymns, classical, jazz, blues, and gospel songs, lifting the service to another level. The Bell Choir, guest musicians, piano and organ accompaniment all add to a musical expression of spirituality.
Let’s Get Together
Join one, or all, of our Social Clubs. We get together to watch movies, exchange gifts, sing carols, or just socialize over cookies and coffee. We share thoughts on books and growing old, and welcome new friends together.
Lakeshore also offers Family Events, where young and old can enjoy holiday events, cookouts and other special gatherings. There are social hours, service opportunities, and seasonal fun and recreation. Every year in August, Lakeshore gathers its Church family for a summer retreat of camping, hiking, singing, campfire songs and worship.
Lakeshore Youth enjoy special activities, community service opportunities, pizza, movie and game nights, ski trips and other travel adventures that create opportunities for youth to have fun, learn, travel and build friendships that will last a lifetime. The youth are also a part of the worship service, including ushering and reading the scripture. Graduations and promotions are honored in worship, and our young adult’s successes are celebrated and encouraged by all.
Lifelong Learning
How is the Bible relevant to your life, today? Lakeshore opens the door to a deeper understanding by reading bible stories from the past, and discussing their relevance in our life today. On Tuesdays, at Soup and Study, we share a simple meal and read from the Bible with Pastor H. James Hopkins. Each Sunday, Bible Study, led by Harold Cotton and George Harper, offers an opportunity after Church to develop our relationship with the Bible.
Adult Forums allow the community to have discussions about relevant issues to Baptists, and strengthen the relationship of our church to the world at large.
During Sunday Service, the children gather at the alter for Children’s Church, where a special activity is planned for the younger members to highlight the day’s sermon message. Bible study for children through 4th grade is provided after Children’s Church.
We partner with Lakeshore Children’s Center to run a Children’s Peace Academy, providing pre-school and kindergarten in a safe, nurturing environment to Oakland children.
Making a Difference
At Lakeshore, we are committed to make a difference in our community. Our Hunger Task Force raises money each year to support community agencies that fight hunger and homelessness. Lakeshore also offers its own food bank and emergency fund. The Task Force organizes our efforts to provide food, shelter, and clothing to our neighbors.
You can get involved in community organization with other local churches and schools through our partnership with OCO (Oakland Community Organization). Here, you can work in grassroots efforts to impact change just by starting with “one-to-one” meetings that are the building blocks to effective organizing. |
