June 7, 2011

June 12 promises to be another full and wonderful Sunday at Lakeshore.  It is Pentecost Sunday.  It is Graduation Sunday. It is quarterly meeting of the Congregation Sunday. On Sunday evening Dr. Naw San Dee KD, pastor of the San Francisco Kachin Baptist Church, will be ordained.  The Kachin church has been meeting at Lakeshore for over three years and is the newest member of the Pacific Coast Baptist Association.

The title of my sermon this Sunday is “Choose Your Teachers Well.”  The sermon is taken from John 14 and Psalm 1.  In the gospel Jesus promises his disciples that even though the time is coming that he will no longer be physically present with them, he will not leave them alone. He promises “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.” The Psalm warns against following the consel of the wicked and praises those who take their instruction from “the law of the LORD.”  Clearly, the Scriptures urge us all to choose, to continue to choose, our teachers well.
